SIP, the Session Initiation Protocol, is a signaling protocol for Internet conferencing, telephony, presence, events notification and instant messaging. It is used to create, manage and terminate sessions in an IP based network. SIP has been the choice for services related to Voice over IP (VoIP) in the recent past. SIP is still growing and being modified to take into account all relevant features as the technology expands and evolves.

From enterprise and operator focus, the application supports both IP-PBX functionalities and CLASS 5 features on the clients on laptops and mobile devices. This software is enabled to support Sweeping™ (seamless device handoff) technology which supports transfer of active sessions between laptops and mobile devices without dropping the sessions. The software supports different Network Address Book (NAB) lookup of presence servers – XCAP, LDAP, XMPP.
